In 1925 Tampico, Mexico, Fred Dobbs and Bob Curtain are fighting poverty day by day. But when they meet an old prospector named Howard, their luck begins to change. The three men head off into the mountains south of the border in search of gold. Their fortune and friendship grows at first, but it is only a matter of time before greed and paranoia take over.
